My team's objective was to design a solution to help people efficiently price cars that were difficult to value or had inconsistent inspection reports.

Vehicles were given a guaranteed minimum price based on a dealer's evaluation of a car which did not always match a follow-up inspection before entering auctions. A manual process was used to catch these risky vehicles but would surely fail as the business grew.
A potential solution was to automate processes including filtering vehicle lists based on criteria set by an administrative pricing team and giving employees a portal that would contain the data needed to quickly offer a price on a vehicle.
The tool would potentially save the auction company tens of thousands of dollars in guarantees for vehicles that didn't match initial inspection reports and catch vehicles before they were listed preventing buyers and sellers dissatisfaction with the process and ultimately the auction business.
I worked with a product owner and a developer to interview and observe the manual pricing team as they explained how they value these classified risky vehicles.
Our methods included qualitative interviews and interactive design sessions to gather information on what would best help the pricing team. The developer participated in the process and was able to weigh difficulty of desired options before we drafted possible solutions.
